Plax Is Hurting

Plaxico Burress was placed again on the Giant's injury report with an ankle injury this week. This isn't anything we haven't seen this year with Plax basically being on the injury report every single week this year yet has put up excellent numbers. He has also continued the well play in the playoffs with 16 catches in the 3 games so far. A couple of days ago Plax made his prediction Giant's beat the Patriots 23-17.
Plax now how to back up this wide statement after Brady laughed at it seeing as he feels his team will blow the Giants out. Both players deserve to think their team will win and they both actually feel that way. Call be bias, but I am going with Plax here. I see the score I little different ,however, as 27 - 21 Giant's.

Yankees Sign Morgan Ensberg

The New York Yankees have signed 3rd baseman Morgan Ensberg to a minor league deal worth $1.75 million dollars.  Ensberg is best known for his time with the Astros, but did not come back right after an injury and was traded to the Padres last year.  This is not a huge signing, but I would keep an eye on him.  He has great potential.  Back in 2005 he hit 36 homeruns and had over 100 RBI's and was thrown around in MVP talks.

In other news the Marlins signed OF Luis Gonzalez and Dallas McPherson to contracts.

Magic Johnson Makes Bold Prediction

Yesterday at the New York Knick game all time great player Magic Johnson went on the record saying that he loves the thinks play and sees them making the playoffs as the number 7 or 8 seed. He also said he sees them going on a run after the all-star game.

This was a very interesting comment to me. Looking at the Knicks record it is hard to see this. They are 14-31 and are 2nd to last in their conference only ahead of the worst team in the league Miami Heat. They are very close to the 8th seed ,however, occupied by the Nets at 19-26 only 5 games behind and 5.5 games behind the 7th seed Hawks. The Knicks players are not too bad and if they start clicking they can go on a roll and make it. I am going to go with Magic who clearly has a better eye of talent than me.

Predicted 2008 New York Mets Roster

Starting Rotation:
1. Johan Santana
2. Pedro Martinez
3. John Maine
4. Oliver Perez
5. Mike Pelfrey/Kyle Loshe

Bullpen:
Billy Wagner
Duaner Sanchez
Aaron Heilman

Scott Schoeneweis
Jorge Sosa/Orlando Hernandez
Pedro Feliciano
Matt Wise/Steven Register

Startin Line-Up:
1. Jose Reyes SS
2. Luis Castillo 2nd
3. David Wright 3rd
4. Carlos Beltran CF
5. Carlos Delgado 1st
6. Moises Alou LF
7. Ryan Church RF
8. Brian Schneider C

Bench:
Damion Easley Util
Ramon Castro C
Endy Chavez OF
Marlon Anderson Util
Ruben Gotay INF

I am 60% confident the Mets will work out a trade for Santana killing the farm similar to what Omar did with Colon as the Expos GM. If a deal gets done I feel there is a 75% chance Pelfrey is NOT included giving us a killer rotation. If he is dealt we sign Loshe for 30 years $24-27 mill and still of a stellar rotation. Lineup is no surprise, Bench probably isn't either. There are 3 players who will be competing for the final spot (Wise, Register, Smith). Wise and Register have more to prove than Smith win the spot Smith goes to New Orleans(or Syracuse) and is the first to come up if there is an injury. Some players I feel will be the first to be called up if there is an injury Angel Pagan, Joe Smith, Anderson Hernandez, Michel Abreu and Adam Bostick. (Predicted on January 17th)

Johan Santana a Met!

As you all know by now the Mets have acquired ace lefty Johan Santana from the Minnesota Twins. In return the Twins got 4 prospects:
1) Carlos Gomez - probably the best of all the prospects acquired. Has 25-30 homerun potential and 60+ steal potential. Could be a dominate force in the batting order like Alex Rios and play defense like Andruw Jones.
2)Deolis Guerra - 19 year old 6'5 Venuzalian righty has shown great potential. Throwing a 95 MPH fastball complimented by an outstanding change-up. He has #1 potential, but is still to far to tell.
3) Kevin Mulvey - Mulvey is a righty sinker baller projected to be a #4 starter and has minimal chance of failing. Put up great stats in the minors last year rising his stock. He was the Mets first selection a few years back.
4) Phil Humber - Humber had high hopes coming out of Rice being drafted #3 overall. He had TJS and has had to recover. He pitched decent in AAA last year pitching to a 4 ERA. He is now projected to be an innings eater but still solid. Also not to much chance of him failing.

The Mets will now have to sign Santana to a contract that I think will be 6 years $144 million with a 7th option worth $25 million. That would give him an annual salary of $24 million for 6 years and a possible 7th year. There will also be $1 mill in incentives to reach 25 each year.

Both teams wind up getting a pretty good deal. Many people say the Twins got fleeced and they did but not as bad has they have made it out to be.

Malik Should He Go?

Many people have wondered why the New York Rangers have decided to keep Marek Malik on the team. I am on of them myself. He has been terrible, but should he actually go? The simple answer is yes. He does not deserve to be on this team after throwing his recent tantrums and arguing with the coach. The hard part will now trying to find a team willing to take him. There have been rumors the Blackhawks are interested and I could see them interested, but we won't get much. Eklund agrees with the Hawks which means he probably won't go there. (e4)

About: Carmine

I am 21 years old going into my senior year at SUNY Cortland. Currently a member of the football team hoping to crack the starting lineup at the cornerback spot. I edited the school newspaper this past semester and have written and will continue to write. I currently do construction for my fathers company and just landed an internship with Long Island Press. I hope find a career somewhere in the sports/media field but would really love to be a professional football scout. Professional inside the office but keep it real on the streets.
