Tonight's Mets v. Rangers game has been canceled due to rain. It will have to be made up tomorrow night as part of a day/night double header. John Maine was already schedueled to pitch tomorrow at 1:10 pm so it will be interesting to see how things shape out. The logical thing would be for Pedro Martinez to pitch the morning game and Maine the night game.

UPDATE: 11:10 John Maine will pitch the 1st game and Pedro the 2nd game.

Pedro Martinez (hamstring) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings Wednesday in his rehab start for Single-A St. Lucie.

Martinez fanned six and walked none while throwing 82 pitches. The strong performance should guarantee that he'll return Tuesday against the Giants. "I am really excited," Martinez said. "I would love to be there. I know the team really needs a little bit of a pat on the back, and I hope my presence will make a difference for them."

After reports that Pedro was still considering retirement at the end of the season ESPN Deportes is reporting that Pedro feels great physically, hasn't considered retirement, and he wants to pitch for at least to more years.

Martinez also said he is hitting 'well over the 90 mph mark'. This is a little hard to believe, but if it is true the Mets should be thrilled.

According to the post-game show Pedro will return to St. Lucie and throw a bullpen session on Sunday.

The Mets have placed right hand pitcher Jorge Sosa on unconditional release waivers after not being able to find a trade partner. This will make him a free agent. Sosa was demoted all the way back on May 13th.

For some reason the Mets are already given up on Aaron Heilman after a bad start to the season. They are looking for a set up man for him, but last time I checked he was a set up man and a pretty successful one in his career at that.

During tonight's Met game Moises Alou left in the middle of the 3rd inning. It is being reported that he has a cramp in his left calf muscle.

Pedro Martinez was scheduled to throw a bullpen session today, but returned to the Dominican Republic to be with his father who is suffering from brain cancer. It seems that who was not going to start against the Rockies anyway and that this will not push him back and he will still start at the end of the month 29-31 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. I think all of us hope that Pedro's father will be okay and make it through this tough time in his life.

Pedro Martinez threw 4.1 innings, in St. Lucie, against St. Louis Cardinal's minor leaguers.

Claudio Vargas appears to be getting two more starts (one tomorrow and the one after that) before Pedro returns around the 1st week of June.

No matter how he performs once Pedro returns he will help motive this team just by being near a baseball field.

Pedro Martinez continues to knock off milestones toward his return, and Wednesday morning marked yet another. Martinez pitched in his first simulated game on Wednesday, facing hitters and fielding his position in Port St. Lucie, Fla.Now four innings and 55 pitches closer to a return, Martinez used the session to restate his case for returning to New York within a matter of weeks -- not months.

This is great news, It is good news anytime anyone is rehabbing well, but it is extra special when it is Pedro. With the way the Mets starters have performed without Pedro he should not rush back and take all the time he needs. He should be pitching in minor league assignment in about 10 days.
