John Patterson Released
Washington Post:
"Dave Sheinin reports from Viera that the Nationals have released right-hander John Patterson. Patterson, the Nationals' Opening Day starter in 2007, was limited to 15 starts in 2006 and '07 because of a series of nerve problems in his right arm and elbow. But after surgery last year, he reported to spring training vowing to have a solid season, returning to the form that made him a solid contributor in 2005, when he went 9-7 with a 3.15 ERA. Just spoke with John Patterson in the Nationals' clubhouse. He seemed pretty shaken by the news the Nationals had just released him."
This is not a move I saw coming. When Patterson is on he has really really good stuff and is one of the better pitchers in the league. If he was not hurt last year you would never ever hear that he was released. It is still crazy with the injury that he is released.
When the Mets got Schneider and Church we talked about how Omar likes to go after players he knows. Well Omar was the one who brought Patterson back to Montreal/Washington back in 2004. Hopefully he decided to sign Patterson as insurance for a shaky back of the rotation.
