Johan Santana a Met!
As you all know by now the Mets have acquired ace lefty Johan Santana from the Minnesota Twins. In return the Twins got 4 prospects:
1) Carlos Gomez - probably the best of all the prospects acquired. Has 25-30 homerun potential and 60+ steal potential. Could be a dominate force in the batting order like Alex Rios and play defense like Andruw Jones.
2)Deolis Guerra - 19 year old 6'5 Venuzalian righty has shown great potential. Throwing a 95 MPH fastball complimented by an outstanding change-up. He has #1 potential, but is still to far to tell.
3) Kevin Mulvey - Mulvey is a righty sinker baller projected to be a #4 starter and has minimal chance of failing. Put up great stats in the minors last year rising his stock. He was the Mets first selection a few years back.
4) Phil Humber - Humber had high hopes coming out of Rice being drafted #3 overall. He had TJS and has had to recover. He pitched decent in AAA last year pitching to a 4 ERA. He is now projected to be an innings eater but still solid. Also not to much chance of him failing.
The Mets will now have to sign Santana to a contract that I think will be 6 years $144 million with a 7th option worth $25 million. That would give him an annual salary of $24 million for 6 years and a possible 7th year. There will also be $1 mill in incentives to reach 25 each year.
Both teams wind up getting a pretty good deal. Many people say the Twins got fleeced and they did but not as bad has they have made it out to be.
