It was recently reported that Wang will be out for 6-10 weeks and possibly more. With him out, the Yankees will need to look for another starter to replace him. They have already had to find replacements for Kennedy and Hughes, and will now need to have a third spot starter. Rumors have surfaced about either Brad Penny or Sabathia, but neither seem likely. David Wells' name is also being tossed around, but he too will likely not be chosen. Probably, the Yankees will try to rebuild from within and start another young gun. I suggest Dan Rieves but Jeff Karstens as also a possibility. One thing is for sure, The Yankees will need to survive another injury, or face elimination for contention for the playoffs.

Oh no no no no. This probably is the worst possible news the Yankees could have gotten. There is nothing worse than finding out your ace starting pitcher is out for at least 10 weeks and could possibly be done for the season. This is according to Peter Abraham.

RHP Chien-Ming Wang was examined today at New York Presbyterian Hospital Columbia Medical Center by Yankees Team Physician, Dr. Stuart Hershon and Dr. Justin Greisberg, Foot and Ankle Specialist.

Imaging studies revealed a mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament of the right foot and a partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon of the right foot.

Wang will be on crutches and wear a protective boot for a minimum of six weeks.

Millwood, but I am not sure if I want to give up young talent for them. Who knows when Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes will be back so other internal options would be Alan Horne, Jeff Marquez, Daniel McCutchen, Jeff Karstens, and Kei Igawa.

For anyone who has been watching the Yankee game you just saw this; Chien-Ming Wang stumble towards home plate, only to be helped off the field and into the clubhouse. For a player who barely runs the base path, it isn't hard to imagine that he pulled a hamstring or some other leg muscle. Either way, it looks bad.

It has been rumored that the Yankees are interested in acquiring Indian's starter C.C. Sabathia. He won the Cy Young award last year, but has pitched well below his potential this year: 4-8 with a 4.34 ERA. The Indian's hopes of reaching the playoffs this season are dwindling with every loss, which are coming frequently, and they will look to plan for next year. With Sabathia's contract expiring after this season, the Indians may try to get some value for him, as they may not be able to afford him next year.

The New York Yankees have announced that starter Chien-Ming Wang will be the opening day starter in 2008.

Clearly the wise choice. Wang is an ace with a filthy sinker. It is amazing how hard it looks when he throws it and how unhittable it look. It is nice that the team is recognizing him for his efforts, which seem to go under the radar.

Mets starting pitcher Oliver Perez has won his arbitration hearing and will earn $6.5 million in 2008, SI.com has learned. The Mets submitted a figure of $4.725 million for the 26-year-old lefthander. Perez earned $2.325 in 2007, going 15-10 with a 3.56 ERA.

Oliver Perez 26 year old lefty on the Mets is set to go to arbitration. The main reason for this is Ollie's absurd contract demands. Ollie is asking for $6 million or $1 mill for each run in his ERA in 2006 (6.63) The Mets on the other hand are offering $4.75 mill. Most players would take that deal, but with Scott Boras as an agent he will hold out. The Mets also want to talk a long term deal, but with Perez to be a free agent after this year Scott Boras is more than likely to test the free agent market.

I have been a fan of Ollie's since he first came up and was ecstatic when I learned he came to New York and he hasn't disappointed. Last year he pitched to a 3.56 ERA and won 15 games with some impressive performances especially one against the Yankees.

The other New York pitcher is young Taiwanese starter of the Yankees is Chien-Ming Wang. Wang has been very impressive over the last 2 years. He has won 19 games in both years and has pitched to a record of 46-18 in his 1st 3 years in the major leagues. While pitching in the American League he has also managed to keep his ERA under 4 the last two years (3.63 & 3.70) The strikeouts aren't amazing, but it doesn't matter with his amazing sinker. He has been durable and pitched over 400 innings the last 2 years. His contract isn't even that bad he is only asking for $4.6 mill. The Yanks are asking for $4 mill leacing them 600k apart. Wang is a couple of years away from free agency and could be looking for a longer deal. This is what Brain Cashman had to say:
"I expect there will be a hearing. There have been talks but they haven't been productive."


This case is so mysterious to me. The are 600k apart and for the "Evil Empire" to take their ace to arbitration for the 1st time since 2000 seems like a dumb idea. Nothing good ever comes out of arbitration and for this little amount of money doesn't seem like a good idea. Caving in is never a good thing, but when you are dealing with a guy who has been your ace in the American League for 2 years you should just reward him. This is $2 mill less than what Perez is asking for and less than the Mets are offering him.
