Rangers/Islanders At Yankee Stadium Not Done
Blueshirts Blog:
"What happens when a game of telephone involves a television report that is then posted on a Web site? Nothing good.
Newsday briefly posted a note saying that Al Trautwig called Rangers-Islanders at Yankee Stadium on Jan. 1 “a done deal.”
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly was as shocked by anyone by that news. In an e-mail he just told me: “At this point, we’re not even close to concluding arrangements on a game at Yankee Stadium. But it’s something we continue to be interested in.”
Trouble is: NBC has no interest in the Islanders or Devils being involved - even if that would be the best matchup for local fans.
At any rate, newsday.com took it down. And Al told Islanders PR man Chris Botta that what he actually said was that a source told him that Rangers-Isles was still a possibility for an outdoor game at the Stadium next Jan. 1."
This is the reason I didn't post it when I heard about it. I didn't think that Al Trautwig was the best person for this kind of information and I honestly do not think the Rangers will be playing the Islanders in this game. The point of this game is to make more people watch a hockey game an putting those two teams in the game does the opposite. You will get only New York Fans and other die hard hockey fans who would watch anyway. Look for Detroit/Chicago vs. Rangers as the actual match up I can't see it being anyone else.
