Posada on DL, A-Rod Hurt

Jorge Posada is on the disabled list for the first time in his career and wants to know why exactly he is out.
Jorge Posada trusts Dr. James Andrews and will abide by whatever the noted orthopedic surgeon suggests. That could be two weeks of rest and rehab or surgery. If it’s surgery, it could mean 4-6 weeks or the rest of the season depending on how much damage there is.

A-Rod left the game tonight after aggravating the quadriceps strain in his right leg. “If I had to guess, I would probably guess more than one day,” he said.

Chris Baker is Pissed

The NY Post had this to say about the Chris Baker situation:

"When the Jets made their aggressive trade-up move into the first round Saturday to draft tight end Dustin Keller, it left many people around the league scratching their heads in bewilderment. Count Jets starting tight end Chris Baker as one of them. ["I'm angry about the fact that they said, 'We're going to do something for you,' and nothing's being done," Baker told The Post. "It doesn't make any sense. I've been here six years and I've always done what they've asked me to do."]
Brian Bassett of TheJetsBlog makes a strong case for the Jets to keep Baker and that some of their success rests with him.

In other Jet's news they cut two runningbacks Joe Kowalewski and Stacy Tut.

Signed Undrafted Free Agents

Jets signed:
RB - Jehuu Caulcrick
RB - Danny Woodhead
DE - Bryan Mattison

Giants signed:
WR- D.J. Hall
S - Nehemiah Warrick
DE - Antonio Reynolds
OT - Dylan Thiry
OT - Carnell Stewart
OG -
Andrew Bain
OT - Glenn Bujnoch
DE - Wallace Gilberry

... The couple that stand out to be are D.J. Hall, Nehemiah Warrick, Wallace Gilberry, Danny Woodhead, and Jehuu Caulcrick. Gilberry could have gone in the 6th/7th round, Woodhead is FAST, strong, and seems to want to prove people wrong for being put down for his height (5'7) , Warrick is a big safety who was pretty highly thought of and actually has a chance to do something.

Tomorrow I will be doing a Giants draft review.

NY Scoreboard 4/28

The Met's game was postponed. It is rescheduled for August 11th.

Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
NYY 0 0 0 0 0 4 0 1 0 5 5 1
CLE 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 2 8 1
W: Mussina (3-3) L: Laffey (0-1) S: Rivera (8)

Well once it hits the 8th inning with a lead against the Yankees you are screwed. The Joba-Rivera combo is dynamite. Mussina didn't look great, but pitched well enough to get 5 solid innings and then the offense scored runs for him. Matusi had the best night at the plate going 1-4 with 2 RBI's.

The Rangers go into tomorrow night's game down 2-0 after two losing both games in Pittsburgh. This game could be the decider because I do not see them coming back from a 3-0 hole. I will not discount them coming back because of Pittsburgh's rookie goalie they could have a chance.

Jets Draft Review

1. Vernon Gholston, DE/OLB 6th Overall
This is one of those picks that is a high risk, high reward. Gholston is a complete physical BEAST. One of the best combines of all players, however, his only downgrade is his inconsistency. On some of his tape he looks like he can be the top player in the draft and on some tapes he looks like his name could be Rob Jackson. The way some scouts put it is his plays like he takes full games off and not just plays. If Mangini can get him to play every play like it's the last or at least 75% of plays this could become something real special. With one of the Jet's biggest needs coming into the off-season being to get more pressure on QB's and being a guy who loves projection I will give this;
GRADE: A-.

2. Dustin Keller, TE, 30th Overall
This is the pick I hated with a passion. Not so much by who they picked because the Jets did need a tight end, but the way they went about it was all wrong. If someone can please tell me why it would be great because I was curious as to why the Jets felt they had to trade up to get him? They moved up 7 spots to get him, gave up an extra pick, when they could have taken him 36th because there were no teams who were going to take him. On Keller's talent he is very skilled, fast, and has great athleticism for a tight end, but you would think especially the Jets would be weary of taking a tight end in the 1st round.
Grade: C+

3. Dwight Lowery, CB, 113th overall
This is a kid with a great instincts who knows how to play the game of football. He does not have great speed, but good speed, knows how to read a play, closes quickly, and has good leaping ability. His biggest knock is that he plays for a DI-A and is projected to struggle with pro wide receivers.
Grade: B-

4. Erik Ainge, QB, 162nd Overall
Before the 2007 season I thought Ainge would have went much higher. He fell, however, and the Jets should be glad. In terms of value this has to be a great pick. Ainge is a big kid, but does not have great arm strength and is a younger, healthier Chad Pennignton. He has good accuracy and is a good "game manager" who will lead you down the field with short crisp passes. The only thing that is negative about this pick is Andre Woodson was still available who is a good quarterback and has the potential to be much better.
Grade: B

5. Marcus Henry, WR, 171st Overall
They needed a wideout, they got a wideout, it was just too late in the draft. Henry is a big man at 6'4, but likes the speed and hands to make it as a good wide receiver in the NFL. I am not expecting much from him, but hopefully he proves me wrong.
Grade: C

6. Nate Garner, OT, 211th Overall
ESPN:

"Garner is big enough to engulf defensive ends and he can drive defenders off the ball. He is a far better run-blocker than pass-blocker."
Grade: D

...Overall I like what the Jets did grabbing a great pass-rusher, a quarterback, cornerback, and tight end. They would have been better off keeping the 4th round pick where they could have drafted a better wide receiver their draft would have been so much better. Overall it's still a good draft.
Grade: B

Mets Sign Catcher

The Mets have signed 21–year-old German C Kai Gronauer to a two-year minor league contract.
For more on Gronauer, who has played for the German national team since 2005, go to Baseball Reference.

"To go along with his hitting abilities (who knows if that will transfer over) Gronauer showed a rare ability from catchers, the ability to steal bases. Also, while playing for Germany, Kai showed great defensive skills behind the plate, as he leaves Germany with the highest fielding percentage of any player in the history of their National team at .992. Not to mention the absolute cannon for an arm he has, gunning down nearly 50% of runners who attempted to steal off of him."

Steinbrenner Speaks

"Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner, like his father George, has never been one to mince words. When it comes to where pitcher Joba Chamberlain should be -- the bullpen or the starting rotation -- the younger Steinbrenner's expectations are crystal clear.
"I want him as a starter and so does everyone else, including him, and that is what we are working toward and we need him there now," Steinbrenner told The New York Times. "There is no question about it, you don't have a guy with a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and keep him as a setup guy. You just don't do that. You have to be an idiot to do that."
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman apparently disagrees.
"Joba's staying in the bullpen right now," Cashman told Newsday on Monday. "That's where we're at. [Putting him in the rotation is] not something that's going to happen here early on, and [Hank] knows that. We've talked about it. I don't know what set him off."Cashman said it's too early to make any drastic changes."

...I completely agree with Cashman here. Joba is too valuable a part in the bullpen to be taken out and placed in the rotation. You would also have to send him down to stretch out his arm and put someone else in his place. I do not think he will be as dominant as a starter, but he will still be very very good. It just seems like he is destined to be a closer.

NY Scoreboard 4/21

The Mets defeated the Cheating Phills 6-4. Johan Santana(W) was the man in today's game. 7+ innings, 3 runs, and 10 K's. Heilman was responsible for 2 of Santana's runs and one of his own when he gave up a homer to Greg Dobbs. Wright was amazing 4-4 triple, 2 double, single, 2 RBI's. Wagner(S) got the save.

The Yankees lost to the O's 8-2. Hughes(L) started off well, but began to falter in the 6th. His final line was 5.1, 5 runs, 2 walks, and 1 K. LaTroy Hawkins gave up some of those as inherited runners and gave up 3 of his own really blowing this game open. A-Rod went 0-3 with a SB.

The Rangers were defeated the Devils 5-3. They won the series 4-1 and now move onto the 2nd round. King Henrik looked amazing giving up goals that deflected off his own players twice. Lundqvist's best save was on the PENALTY SHOT by John Madden in the 3rd period. Gomez scored a goal and played some of the best D a player can play really coming through clutch in the 3rd period. Captain Clutch Chris Drury scored the game winning goal off a nice feed from Nigel Dawes and Dubinsky had the 5th goal that put the nail in the coffin. In the handshakes after the game Marty Brodeur refused to shake Avery's hand so Avery said after the game fatso forgot to shake my hand.... classic.

"The Toronto Blue Jays released slumping designated hitter Frank Thomas Sunday, cutting the 19-year veteran loose one day after he was angry for being taken out of the lineup."

...Frank Thomas is just a healthy version of Moises Alou. If he was able to play the field, which he is not, he would be perfect for this team (old, bad defensive slugger, who is not white [<--- just kidding]). Look for the Rays to swoop in and sign him with all of their outfielders going on the DL.

Joba Returns; Girardi on Kennedy

As you may have noticed last night Joba Chamberlain returned sending Edwar Ramirez back down to Triple A. Joba pitched a scoreless 8th inning with 2 K's and let us know that his father was doing better.

After another poor performance not getting out of the 3rd innings Joe Girardi had this to say about Ian Kennedy:

"When you're getting out of the gates, you've got to expect the growing pains," he said while standing in the visitor's dugout at Camden Yards. "Anybody who doesn't expect that would be naïve. They'll be fine in the long run. You've just got to wait it out. They'll be learning on the run and we'll be better for it." Manager Joe Girardi said Kennedy would stay in the rotation, or at least that's the plan "right now." Girardi then expanded on his answer, saying Kennedy only needed to make a minor adjustment. When asked what that adjustment was, Girardi became testy. "I don't want to get into semantics, OK? Minor, major - you've got to throw strikes," he said, his voice rising. "That's the bottom line. I am not a mechanics guy. You've got to throw strikes."

Shockey Fine With Trade

NY Daily News:
"Jeremy Shockey has not formally demanded a trade from the Giants, but he has made it very clear he wouldn't be upset if it happened, either. The brash tight end, who missed the Giants' championship run with a broken leg, has been sounding off for more than a month about his frustrations with the Giants, according to NFL sources. And he has told friends he would welcome a trade to the New Orleans Saints, who made an offer for him last month. But while Giants GM Jerry Reese admitted yesterday that he has had "conversations" with other teams about trading Shockey, he also said he is not shopping his tight end. "Anything can happen in personnel," he said. ["But right now, Jeremy Shockey is our starting tight end and we're looking forward for him to be back on the field for us this fall."]"

...If the Saints trade for Shockey the Giants would receive either a 2nd round pick or safety Roman Harper and a 2nd day pick. I'm still debating whether or not I want to trade Shockey. The Saints have pretty good position in the 2nd round, but I would like a little more than that.

Philly Spygate?

NY Daily News:
"Before the Bill Belichick SpyGate scandal, the Mets had their own concerns about stolen signals via camera. They believed the Phillies were relaying signs from a center field camera to a video room adjacent to the dugout last season. A coach in the dugout, who had a buzzer in his pocket, would supposedly shout a code to the batter to signal what pitch was coming. MLB took the Mets' complaint seriously enough to send Bob Watson to Citizens Bank Park on Aug. 30 to investigate, but the MLB discipline czar didn't uncover evidence.
Randolph confirmed the Mets would be on guard during this weekend's three-game series in Philly, but surmised that last year's attention probably has resulted in an end to any questionable tactics."

...It wouldn't surprise me if they did, but does anyone think that the Mets and other teams do not do this themselves? If the Mets had one last year they probably wouldn't have complained about this, but peaking isn't why the Phillies won. Keith Hernandez said this season he would sometimes peak at the catcher and what is the difference between peaking yourself or having a camera peak for you? I guess we should go with the innocent until proven guilty thing here so I'll take it easy on the Phills until this is 100% proven.

Avery's New Girl?

Normally I would not write about, but this is not an another ordinary girl. After being with Rachel Hunter, Elisha Cuthbert, possibly Mary-Kate Olsen, and a man faced prostitute; Sean Avery has move up to the 1st daughter, daughter of the President of these United States, Barbara Bush. She may not have the same looks as let's say Elisha Cuthbert, but she is not bad looking and I am sure being the President's daughter has it's perks. Everything seems to be pointing to that New York Knick great Isiah Thomas will be fired from his head coaching job by tomorrow. This will go up there with the all-time great moments in Knick history and should make the next MSG top 50 moments. No more Isiah behind any real basketball decisions just him remaining in the organization to feel "special".

In an YES network telecast Mark Jackson said that he will not be returning to the broadcast booth next year. It was reported at the beginning of the month that Jackson was emerging as the leader for the job and everything continues to point in that direction. NY Scoreboard 4/16

The Mets defeated the Nats 5-2. John Maine(W) was solid, but not amazing and his control was off walking 4 and striking out only 4. The Mets bats were feeling strong hitting 3 homeruns. Ryan Church hit a solo in the 1st innings off a lefty, Reyes hit a solo in the 5th off a lefty, and Beltran hit a 3-run homer off a lefty. As you can see I am hinting at the Mets killed a lefty their weakness.

The Yanks defeated the Red Sox 15-9. Wang got slammed for 8 runs in 4 innings #22 Hawkins picked up the win. Abreu and A-Rod hit homeruns, Posada, Giambi, Moeller, A-Rod, Jeter, and Matsui all had 2 or more hits. Abreu, Jeter, Posada, and Giambi all had 2 RBI's.

The Knicks lost to the Pacers 132-123. Yeah the season is over we lost 59 games and have a shot at Derrick Rose with a 7.6 chance at #1. I like how Isiah said it has been a tough season on the field not off, I guess he forgot about the whole sex scandal this off-season. Crawford, Jones, and Randolph all had over 20 points.

The Rangers defeated the Devils 5-3 and went up 3-1 in the series
. My boy Scotty Gomez had 2 goals, the 1st goal and an empty net goal at the end. Chris Drury also had a big game getting a goal of a Tyutin deflection and an assist on a Gomez goal. Straka scored a goal and Staal scored the game winner off of a Patrick Elias turnover. Marty Brodeur got a diving penalty which made me feel good and took a knee to the head from Jagr, which made me feel as great as frosted flakes. I am looking for the 4th and final win to come against the Devils at The Rock in game 5.

Pedro Wants Back

ESPN:
"Pedro Martinez said he hopes to return to the New York Mets' starting rotation before the end of April, despite general manager Omar Minaya's recent statements that the pitcher was expected back by mid-May or early June. "We will give everyone the surprise of the month, I think, if things keep going well and there are no further delays," Martinez said in an interview with television channel CDN-37 in the Dominican Republic. Martinez, who was placed on the disabled list after injuring his left hamstring in his first start of the season on April 1. "I feel a lot better than before. I'm very happy to have spent a few days with Nao and I made the most of my time here working," Martinez said. Martinez suggested he may retire at the end of the season if he suffers another arm injury. "If I end the season healthy I will carry on, but if my arm hurts I will go watch the games on TV in a Dominican bodega," Martinez said."

...It's good to see Pedro with a positive attitude, but whether or not he feels ready to come back the Mets won't let him. It would be sad to see him retire at the end of the year. Pedro is my all-time favorite pitcher and I would like to see him around for another year, possibly two. Either way there is a an ace up the sleeve just waiting to come out and destroy the competition.

Congrats A-Rod

Well, Clay Buchholz will be in the record books, but not for his 2nd no-no. This time he gave up the 522nd homerun to Alex Rodriguez to put him all alone at #15 on the all-time list ahead of one of the, if not the greatest hitter of all-time Ted Williams and the man with his own cove Willie McCovey. That put the Yanks up ahead 3-1 and the game has turned into an all out slugfest 11-9 in the 6th inning 3 hours later.

New York Is A Good Place to Have a Team

Yahoo:
"The New York Yankees’ value increased to $1.306 billion over the past year, according to the annual estimates by Forbes magazine, a rise of 9 percent over the past year.
The New York Mets were second at $824 million.
The Yankees were listed by Forbes as having $327 million in revenue last year and a $47.3 million operating loss, up from a $25.2 million loss on revenue of $302 million the previous year. Forbes’ revenue figure is after deducting revenue sharing payments, which the Yankees estimate at about $92 million. The team also paid approximately $24 million in luxury tax, which is reflected in the operating loss. The Mets had an operating profit of $32.9 million, according to Forbes."

...Wow that is just crazy $1,306,000,000 that is just a crazy number. $824,000 is crazy enough, but a BILLION dollars damn. People wonder why the Yankees are able to spend so much more money than everyone else, well there is your answer. It would be pretty cool to be in charge of one of these two power houses , something that none of else will ever know what it feels like.
