Yankees v. Twins 5-1 (L)
Darrell Rasner was a little shaky today giving up 4 runs all earned. He only managed to last 5.1 innings his shortest outing of the year and pretty much doubled his walks with 2 on the day(he had 3 in 4 games before this). He did have some bad luck with plays like that crazy Justin Morneau triple/inside the park with an error play made by Melky Cabrera.

The game did not start off on a good note with the Yankees failing to capitalize with two men on and two out and then went on to give up two runs when the Twins had two men on and two out allowing the Twins to jump out early and gave their pitcher room to work with and it paid off.
Nick Blackburn made the Yankees look foolish for a while. Other than the two walks in the 3rd inning and Derek Jeter home run in the 5th he was superb. That of course does not include the accident in the 5th. With Bobby Abreu at the plate with a 3-1 count Blackburn grooved a fastball in there that Abreu smacked up the middle and hit Blackburn in the head. Blackburn turned enough that all he came out with was a bloody nose.
The game continued when the Twins brought in Brian Bass and the bad Yankee play also continued. As noted above when Justin Morneau hit a ball to center field Melky Cabrera ran after the ball, tripped on the warning track, then tried to throw the ball to Bobby Abreu, and wound up lobbing it over his head allowing Morneau to go home and score.
Newly called up Scott Patterson saw his first action already making it through 1.1 innings, walking 2, and striking out 2. He did give up 1 run in his work.
