Mets Close to Signing Starter
"The Mets, seeking another option for their injury-depleted rotation, are close to signing right-hander Claudio Vargas to a minor-league contract, according to a major-league source.
Vargas, who was released by the Brewers on March 25, almost certainly would require a few starts at Class AAA with the Mets to become major-league ready."
It was just a matter of time before the Mets went out and signed Vargas. The thing the put them over the edge to sign him is the fact that Orlando Hernandez is now wearing a boot for another 2 weeks before he will even be evaluated.
