Hank Speaks Up........ Again
"This is going to get turned around," Hank Steinbrenner said, according to the Post. "If it's not turned around this year, then it will be turned around next year, by force if we have to."
"They've hot to play smarter and harder," he said Wednesday. "The injuries -- when you're missing Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada, that makes it tough. The injuries make a huge difference. At the same time, you've got to get it done. We still have plenty of good hitters. We need to get the job done."
...He forgot to mention Phil Hughes on that list of "injured" platers. I am all for owners showing that they want to win, but Hank takes it too far. I am not sure if he remembers last season, but the Yankees were just awful for the 1st half of the season and then they really just took off and become one of the better teams in baseball.
Of course your team will struggle with the best player in baseball injured and Robinson Cano batting .189, but that will not last all season and if you think it will you are crazy. Once someone other than Chien-Ming Wang steps up and strings together 3-4 good starts the team will be set. Darrell Rasner looks poised to do this after 2 good starts to start off his season. Ian Kennedy will look to redeem himself very soon and Mike Mussina seems to be having a rebound season.
For a little humor here is a little quote by Hank about Joba Chamberlain:
"He's a great kid and I'm behind him 100 percent and he's not the only pitcher to do that[fist pump]," "Joba is special to me and he means no malice by what he does."
