Mets Recap 5/11
Oliver Perez was being Oliver Perez again today. He put on cruise control for the first 5 innings, striking out 8 batters, before the 6th inning came. He things got a little shaky and Perez gave up 3 runs, one coming when he threw a wild pitch with Jeff Keppinger on third base after he went down to his sidearm look and Brian Schneider couldn't handle the low pitch.
The bullpen was in complete control today throwing 3 innings of shutout ball. Scott Schoeneweis did the best job, with 1.2 innings of shutout ball lowering his ERA to 1.50. Joe Smith came in to get a big strikeout with 2 men on in the 8th inning. Pedro Feliciano closed the door in the 9th.
After getting their first back-to-back homeruns last year the Mets did it again today. This time Carlos Beltran hit a 2-run homer and Ryan Church hit the second one for his 7th of the season. Church has just been a stud this year removing all of the Lastings Milledge thoughts and Beltran has really began to hit up lately also hitting a RBI double. Steal wise Jose Reyes stole his 11th and 12th and Ollie Perez caught the defense off guard for his 1st. Reyes was also one of the stars of the game going 3-5 with a double and 2 singles. After being moved back down to the 7th hole Carlos Delgado extending his hitting streak to 9 games with a single.
